This is one of the few baroque gardens to have survived almost intact since the 1680s. Laid out beneath the spectacular castle, it includes grand Italianate terraces, huge 300-year-old cloud-like yew hedges, and a formal Edwardian garden with lavish herbaceous borders full of fragrant flowers. Powis Castle & Garden, near Welshpool, is probably best known for its huge 300-year-old yew hedges. Like billowing green clouds they sit atop a cascade of elegant Italiante terraces. By March, the baroque gardens are starting to fill with colour, including the pinks and whites of magnolias. Most impressive, though, is the vast sea of yellow in the daffodil paddock.
