Half the garden is in a former quarry with winding paths mown through wildflower meadows among native trees. The more formal areas feature colourful borders with many unusual perennials. There are more than 100 roses, mostly old, scented varieties, some of which are huge and spectacular, rambling through trees. The gardens are managed for wildlife and support a wide range of birds, insects and small mammals.
