The recently restored four-tier sunken garden has been returned to its Victorian heyday, displaying a kaleidoscope of colours and plants. The historically important Temple Water area is also being restored, reinstating its original lakeside walk and viewing points. There are woodland and shoreline trails to explore, and you can visit the Georgian farmyard, which featured in Game of Thrones. Overlooking Strangford Lough in County Down, Castle Ward offers fabulous daffodil displays – as well as a fascinating architectural one. The occasional marital disagreement is not uncommon, but here it can be seen reflected in the architecture of the house itself. After failing to agree between the Gothic and Palladian style, Bernard Ward, 1st Viscount Bangor and his wife, Lady Anne, decided to split the house down the middle. Before setting off, always check the garden’s website or call direct for up-to-date opening times and other ticket price options, and any one-off restrictions which may apply. Always take your 2-for-1 Gardens card with you. If you’ve pre-booked your tickets under the 2-for-1 Gardens offer, show your card on the day to validate the booking. Please don’t make multiple pre-bookings or share your 2-for-1 Gardens card – card misuse will invalidate your discount claim at the garden.Check before you travel
