What are the Kent and Stowe Eversharp Bypass secateurs like to use?

The smooth wooden handles are comfortable to hold and offer a great grip, and although they’re made from lightweight aluminium, weighing in at just 330g, they still feel tough and hard wearing. The carbon steel blade is covered in a plasma coating, which Kent and Stowe claim makes it harder and sharper than any other blade and while we can’t substantiate this, these are certainly hard and incredibly sharp. When pruning, they cut through almost every material on test with little resistance. Live green wood was easy to prune and they passed cleanly through even hard, dried wood. The cutting width can be adjusted with a simple catch, from 1cm to 2.5cm, so these secateurs can tackle thicker branches as well as more delicate stems. There’s also a safety catch by your thumb, so it’s easy to open and close with one hand. Other great features are a notch for cutting twine and garden wire and a hanging hook on the handle. The only weak feature is the colour – we found the grey blade and light brown handles tricky to spot if you drop the secateurs in a border or amongst prunings.
