In the sixth extract from Monty Don‘s guide to creating a wildlife garden, he plants a group of bee-friendly plants around his pond. First he selects Geum ‘Bell Bank’, with its open flowers providing easy access for pollinating insects. Then he chooses long-flowering Scabiosa ‘Pink Mist’, rich in nectar and pollen. Finally, he opts for the plume thistle, Cirsium rivulare ‘Atropurpureum’, which, although short-lived, puts on an amazing show. Watch now, for wildlife planting inspiration.
