Stylish concrete planters are perfect for house plants, cacti and succulents. We show you how to make them.

Concrete planters look stylish and sleek, and they’re long lasting. They’re perfect for growing cacti and succulents, either individually or grown together as part of a succulent display.

The planters are easy to make at home. Experiment by creating small planters for house plants, and then branch out to create larger planters, suitable for growing outdoor plants.

You can also be creative with the design and shape. You can even dye your planter, using concrete dye, for an alternative look.

You Will Need

  • Sharp sand
  • Cement
  • Water
  • Bucket
  • Dust mask

Step 2

Pour the mix into your larger tub, until it’s about half full. If there’s spare concrete, why not make a series of pots in different sizes as a windowsill set?

Step 3

Next, take the smaller tub and firmly push it into the liquid mix, aiming to stop 2cm before you hit the bottom of the larger pot. Leave to set for 2-3 days.

Once set, cut off and remove the plastic tubs. If you want to use your pot outside, drill a drainage hole through the base with a masonry bit.
